Art Rosenbaum - 2006
Before the days of 24-hour sports coverage, Art Rosenbaum’s Chronicle column was the “SportsCenter” of its day. A writer, columnist and editor for more than 50 years. Through all the years of his reporting on Bay Area greats, he said the most amazing athletic achievement he ever saw was pulled off by Willie Mays - on the golf course. The “Say Hey Kid” hit a drive low, which ricocheted straight back at him. In one fluid move, Mays snatched the ball out of the air, placed it back on the tee, teed off and sent the ball onto the fairway.
